Product Description

Details

Visit one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, once the longest single span bridge in the world. It is now relegated to 5th position, but this does not take anything away from this awesome structure. On the 17th July 1981, the Humber Bridge was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The length of the main span is 1410m and was the longest single span bridge in the world. The Humber Bridge retained this world record for over 18 years until 1998 when the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge in Japan opened. This holiday highlights mans impact on the landscape and relationship with nature. The Humber estuary had been a barrier to trade for centuries and now a man made structure spans the river as a show of mans triumph over nature. In the shadow of the bridge is the Humber Bridge Country Park, a 21 hectare reserve. A reclaimed 13th Century quarry that opened to the public in 1986. The Humber Bridge Country Park was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 2002 in recognition of its wildlife value and its importance to the local community. Directly in the shadow at the South side is Barton Clay Pits & Waters Edge nature reserves. All 3 reserves have come about through mans use of the landscape and show that nature can flourish and shows nature can triumph over mans impact on the environment..  A short walking holiday that will amaze and astound you!!
