This tour of the stunning Yorkshire Wolds is an introduction to the landscapes that inspired David Hockney to produce some of his most acclaimed and talked about artwork. You will see the exact locations that Hockney painted and continues to do to this day, some of the places visited are Thixendale, Fridaythorpe, Huggate and of course Warter where the "Bigger Trees" picture was created. The Yorkshire wolds offers some of the best landscapes and vista's in England, now you can see for yourself the magic landscape and countryside that Hockney captures on canvas.
Day 1: Arrive Hull, overnight – a chance to visit the Ferens Art gallery or the Wolds only submarium
Day 2: Stopping off at the Humber Bridge – Marvel at one of the largest single span bridges in the world. Driving through some of the picture postcard Wolds villages to arrive at Warter. A visit to the Yorkshire Wolds Heritage Centre. Then a visit to Burnby hall Gardens for afternoon tea.
Day 3: A tour of Millington, Thixendale and Huggate – surely the best villages in England!!
Day 4: A visit to the famous Sledmere House and a stop off at Wharram Percy, the best preserved site in the UK of a deserted medieval village. A trip to the highest point in the area at Staxton to admire the view of the whole landscape we have visited.
Day 5: A day at leisure in Bridlington or a chance to visit another stately home with capability brown gardens and small animal zoo - Sewerby Hall.
Day 6: return to Hull for departure.
