Sustainable Tourism

Yorkshire Explorer take their responsibility seriously for developing a sustainable tourism industry, we understand and appreciate that all forms of tourism can have an impact on the local environment and culture. We hope to minimise the negative and maximise the positive effects that tourism can bring. A sustainable tourism industry can have a low impact on the environment and community in which it works, it helps provide employment for local people and industry and utilises local produce and goods. A sustainable approach to tourism provides a positive experience for the visitor, business, and environment thus creating a better place to live and work.

How we are working towards a sustainable future:

 • We operate self-guided holidays which minimise the impact on the trail and other users

 • All our holidays use local accommodation suppliers and businesses; these in turn use local produce and employ local people. Therefore supporting the local    economy and communities in which we work.

 • The majority of our holidays are on foot, and customers are encouraged to use public transport whenever available

. • All our brochure’s and information are available to download, avoiding costly and unnecessary printing

. • We will endeavour to make all our office and business activities carbon neutral in 12 months time

. • We work with local schools to engage and encourage children to appreciate their local environment, creating the stewards and guardians of the future

. • We will work with local charities and organisations that undertake projects to protect and promote the natural habitat of our area.

Responsible tourism is not a tick list of “things to do” but an ethos to be followed, it is not an end result that can be achieved but a continuous path to be taken in the hope that others will follow.

Yorkshire Explorer will endeavour to create a more sustainable approach for the area’s tourism product and will be its guardian and champion.
